Here are some frequently asked questions that we hope will help you prepare for your visit to The Green Man:

To ensure all our guests can enjoy The Green Man safely, please read all of this information before you visit us.

Can you make a reservation?

Unfortunately, not yet. Sorry for any inconvenience caused. Due to the need for social distancing we’re taking a cautious approach and have not yet announced the date for opening our inside space.

Initially we are just serving a very casual menu ordered online through our website and delivered to a designated 'drop bench' close to where you're sitting in the garden. The weather won't always be playing ball, therefore, we won't take bookings until we have inside space available as a backup, and can guarantee you a fantastic experience come rain or shine.

The Green Man is now re-open, what can you expect?

  • Outside drinking & dining only (for now)
  • Please note that as long as the 1 meter social distancing guideline is in place our policy will be only one household group per picnic bench. Our benches can comfortably seat 4 people, perhaps 5 or 6 if you have small children.
  • A small menu or tapas & desserts available, this menu will expand in due course
  • Opening Thursday evening through to Sunday afternoon.
  • We will not be taking reservations due to weather dependent nature of outdoor dining, this will change when we start to offer indoor dining.
  • There is a hygiene station set up near the front door of the pub so that you can sanitise on arrival, and check in with the member of staff stationed there. Once you're squeaky clean, the next step is to go find a bench – first come first serve and get ordering.
  • You will need to place your order online through the webiste, not directly with staff.  There will be ordering instructions on the website and in the garden, but you will need a device with wifi, and you will need to pay online (we are going cashless)
  • Our staff will deliver the food and drink to a designated 'drop bench' close to your seat. You'll need to get up to collect the items. If you'd like another drink, or dessert, the that is again ordered online.
  • Toilets will be open on a one person in, one person out basis, with a one way system in place. The toilets can be accessed from the back garden, with an outside queue. Please be patient there may be a wait at peak times

In summary: We are offering a limited food & drink menu served outside in the garden. All orders will be placed online rather than in person or over the bar, and our staff will deliver the food and drink to a designated 'drop bench' close to where you're sitting. Due to the weather dependent nature of outdoor dining we are not currently taking any reservations, however we will reassess this as soon as we feel able to welcome diners inside.

What will be on the menu at The Green Man?

Our menu will initially consist of a selection of tapas dishes, and a some yummy desserts. This is due to the small size of our kitchen and the need for staff to social distance from each other.

As social distancing guidelines are gradually phased out we will be able to staff the kitchen to a higher level and offer a more varied menu. So initially the menu will be much smaller than pre-lockdown but it's a step in the right direction, and as mentioned we hope to expand our menu over the coming weeks & months.

Our sister pub The Chequers in Fowlmere has a much bigger kitchen so they will be offering a range of main meals, take a look at their website for more information www.thechequersfowlmere.co.uk

When will you be open?

Our opening hours at The Green Man will initially be Thursday evening to Sunday afternoon, but we plan to extend these over time.

How many people can I come with?

Please note that as long as the 1 meter social distancing guideline is in place our policy will be only one household group per picnic bench. Our benches can comfortably seat 4 people, perhaps 5 or 6 if you have small children.

If you arrange to meet friends from another household at the pub, you will need to occupy separate benches.

Can I use the toilets inside?

Toilets will be open on a one person in, one person out basis, with a one way system in place. The toilets can be accessed from the back garden, with an outside queue. Please be patient there may be a wait at peak times

What social/physical distancing measures are you putting in place for your guests and staff?

We are introducing a number of measures to help social/physical distancing which include:

  • All our tables outside have been spaced out to adhere to social distancing guidelines. Please do not move them.
  • To avoid a queue forming we will be operating a 1 in 1 out system for our toilets. Please be patient and respect this.
  • We will be spacing out staff work-stations across the pub, and will be staggering staff rotas so staff arriving, leaving and on breaks will be spread more evenly.

We have additional cleaning measures in place

  • In bathrooms and high contact areas we have increased the frequency of cleaning, requiring all surface areas to be regularly cleaned with disinfectant.
  • All equipment used by our teams will be cleaned daily and at every available opportunity.
  • We have removed all high touch items such as magazines, books, games, blankets, salt & pepper pots etc. We’ll be using individually wrapped cutlery items and all glassware and kitchenware will be sanitised after each use.
  • Our kitchen linen provider adheres to the recognised guidelines for thermal disinfection during the laundry process.

How are we supporting our staff?

  • Before returning to our pubs to work, all our teams will have received training related to the changes in work processes, including Preparing to re-open, Cleaning & hygiene standards, Food hygiene standards & Social distancing.
  • We are providing regular updates to our teams to ensure they have the latest Government advice.
  • We have robust hygiene practises in place for our teams, with easy access to hand washing facilities, and hand sanitising gels provided.
  • We have amended shift times to alleviate the number of staff arriving and departing at the same time and staggered breaks to allow social distancing in staff changing rooms.
